Arc'teryx Seattle, Trail Mixed Collective, and Crystal Mountain Ski Resort has collaborated to co-sponsor an inclusive ski & snowboarding class instructed by our collective Community Ambassadors. This class will be split into two groups, one pod of 4 students per instructor, based on experience level. The intention is to provide a focused clinic that is covid friendly and allows for more 1:1 coaching time per student.
Â
Group #1Â - Intro to Snowboarding (Beginners) with Layla Anane
Learning to snowboard can be fun and easy, especially if you don't take yourself too seriously! In this intro, we will start out on a flat spot for a quick warm up, gear checks and intros. We will then get to know our board, practice some foundational movements and discuss safety tips. You will learn the most efficient ways to strap in, stand, and move in flat terrain while attached to your board. We then move to a gentle slope to practice utilizing our edges and beginning to initiate our first turns. The ultimate goal of this class is to provide the foundational skills needed to board/disembark the lift safely and ride on a beginner slope with confidence and control.
Â
Group #2 -Â Intro to Steep Skiing with Krystin Norman
This clinic will help intermediate/advanced skiers gain confidence, edge control, and more comfortable body position while skiing in steep or technical terrain. Attendees must be comfortable with attempting to ski blues and/or blacks.
Â
WHAT'S INCLUDED WITH YOUR TICKET:
• One 3-hour instruction for either snowboarding or skiing
• Mountain access day-pass, full equipment rental, and lift tickets
• Access to layering/gear education, private shopping advice, and steep discounts via Arc'teryx Seattle & Tulalip Outlet

Layla was born and raised in Seattle and has been a snowboarder for 16 years. She grew up with little knowledge of the outdoors. As a teen, she received an opportunity to learn to snowboard through a full scholarship with a local youth nonprofit, the Service Board. She fell in love with the sport at once, progressed quickly, and eventually became and instructor with the organization.
When she is not focusing on advancing her riding skills, she works to develop relationships and resources to support the same youth organization that gave her her start, and remains passionate about increasing access to non-traditional sports for youth from underserved backgrounds and communities.
Â
Krystin is a fermentation scientist, freeride skier, rock climber, mountain biker, and the founder of the SheJumps/NWAC Snowpack Avalanche Scholarship Program. Her outdoor goals have been to encourage women of all backgrounds to achieve high level competency and formal certifications in their sports, and to create opportunities for affordable avalanche and snow safety education.
Â
When she isn't designing new beers & beverages, Krystin spends her free time exploring aesthetic ski lines, granite rock, and loamy trails in the Cascade Mountains and other ranges.
Trail Mixed is a collective of women of color who seek to increase inclusivity outdoors. They offer safe, inclusive spaces to take courses and learn with those they have affinity with, formal mentorship to grow together, and various events + education + meetups to reduce barriers to entry.
