ABOUT COLOUR THE TRAILS
Colour the Trails is a national Black woman owned business, focused on improving access to outdoor activities for BIPoC (including those who lay within the intersection of BIPoC and 2SLGBTQAI+ community) adventurers. We pride ourselves on not only hosting events that break barriers for BIPoC to enter outdoor sports, but also for creating media that showcases BIPoC stories in the outdoors – because representation matters. Through our programming and initiatives, we aim to build awareness, dismantle barriers and create accessible opportunities for participation in outdoor recreation.
"I Am Because You Are” follows the journey of six women of colour as they embark on their first mountaineering trip in the beautiful and rugged Bugaboos. The plan was for a summer trip with the opportunity to learn foundational mountain skills from their guides, but up until the last minute the trip was almost canceled due to historic levels of spring snow. Despite the group having mixed levels of experience with backpacking or camping in the snow, the crew decides to come together, pack their bags and take on the adventure with trust in their guides.

From rubbish to resource, a tent was assembled from 137 unrepairable jackets. The kaleidoscope of colour is a creation from material well used and deserving of more life. Exploring the possibilities of circularity, Michelle Parker, Elena Hight, Spencer O’Brien, Lucy Sackbauer, Robin Van Gyn, and Tatum Monod take the tent on a winter journey in its new form, creating their own memories and moments with its walls.

To most skiers in British Columbia, Ts’zil (Mount Currie) is a true gem. The gorgeous mountain looms high above Pemberton and is home to many stories of skiers and snowboarders pushing themselves on the classic lines of its Northwest Face. But while Ts’zil is the backdrop to life in the valley, it’s easy to forget that the history of Ts’zil goes much deeper than what's been skied or snowboarded.
“Slides on the Mountain” follows Talon (17) and Riki (15), two brothers from the Lil’wat Nation, as they decide to ski Ts’zil and set off to learn the skills they need to ride the mountain safely. Their unique personalities shine as we follow them through the winter. Lil'wat elders also shed light on why it's so significant for Lil’wat youth to be able to experience the mountains so deeply entrenched in their culture.
Appearance at event: Sandy Ward

Lexicon is an inspiring short film that celebrates the universal language of skiing as a catalyst for human connection. Following along Tom Peiffer, Edgar Cheylus, Maude Besse, Stinius Skojskift, and more travel to Japan, reminding us all that sometimes the most profound communication occurs when words are not needed at all.
