"Running isn’t a sport to me, it is me. It is embedded within my DNA and it courses through my body on a cellular level. I decided to embark on a year of global running. Running 12 Ultra Trail World Tour races in 12 months over 12 countries. What I can impart from my experiences so far is this, running is tough and it’s suppose to be. Ultra running has molded me into the woman I am now, resilient. More so, resilient in the face of adversity. Never stop pushing and fighting for the passions that ignite your soul.

I strongly believe that nutrition and athletics is paramount for competition but also recovery. After years of researching and altering my diet, I decided to commit myself to eating vegan. Over time, I noticed that my recovery time after a race dropped significantly. My energy levels started to rise and I just felt healthier overall. We, as ultra runners spend a vast amount of time outside training. For me, eating vegan creates a bond to the ground I am running on. A connection to mother earth and it’s wonders." - Rachel Sklar
