Trail Etiquette:
Passing a runner in front of you? Please try to alert other runners when passing as sections of the trail are narrow and may require them to step off momentarily. Everyone wants to compete, but no one wants to get hurt due to a fall on narrow trail while passing.
Additionally, this is a shared Reservation. The Blue Hills, although allowing us to use their trails, is still open to the public for biking, hiking, and running. Please be courteous to other trail users throughout the duration of the race.
Headphones:
This is a no headphones suggested race. Standard wireless or wired headphones can prevent runners from hearing passing competitors as well at cyclists and fellow hikers (this is still an open Reservation). Bone conduction headphones or single ear headphones are suggested, allowing for continued hearing throughout the race.
Course Marking:
The course will be marked every ~¼ mile and lining turns with cones. In addition, there will be signs with directional arrows showing you the right turns/directions at various points throughout the race. If you are ever unsure if you are on the right trail, continue running until you see a cone for confirmation. These will be your confidence markers telling you you are on the right route. If ever lost, a PDF of the route is available below in addition to a virtual GPX track and Strava track.
Aid Station:
We will be providing aid at the approximate halfway point around ~3 miles. This aid station will be set up before the largest climb of the race and will have various snacks/hydration options for everyone including trail mix, bananas, electrolytes, water, etc. There will also be aid available at the start/finish line so grab what you need before and after the race!
Recommended Gear List:
Although there is no required gear for this race, we do have some suggestions. Everyone’s needs during various lengths of races are different, but for this trail 10k we suggest a hydration vessel (soft flask/bladder in a pack or handheld) and a few small snacks to pack in and out. Know yourself! If you think you will need water or aid sooner than 3 miles into the race, bring it along! We additionally recommend trail shoes as much of the course is rocky and technical. Weather dependent, some other items that may be useful are a windbreaker, hat, and sunglasses.Â
Medical Assistance:
Emergencies and injuries happen! Especially on trail, you never know what situations will arise. We'll have medics on site to help with medical emergencies and issues, should they occur.Â
