Meet Cinque Kemp, also known as "ignabu;" drummer/multi-instrumentalist, musical/visual director and producer, educator, athlete, model, lover, feeler, and thinker relentlessly devoted to the elevation of human vibrations/consciousness and the protection of the planet.
"I'm one of the last of the Mohicans - originally from South Jamaica Queens, New York, currently residing in Bushwick, I've been on a journey to uncover all the ways that humans (starting with myself) can transcend the paradigm that we seem to be in; technology over nature, money over love, gluttony/vanity over health, short-term vs long-term, and general lack of attention to our mother Earth. I've been quite blessed to provide climbing, swimming and musical knowledge to thousands over a course of 10+ years and now am making successful strides in the music and visual arts industries with the same ethos.
Â
It was love at first climb when a good friend of mine from Queens urged me to try. Being generally athletic (tennis, ping-pong, ice-hockey, swimming, handball, basketball, biking, skateboarding) made it easier to adapt to climbing but it's always an incredible challenge.
Â
My parents were music aficionados! My father worked at several radio stations as DJ, weatherman, traffic reporter and my mother could cut any rug and carry any tune; never really a background involving instruments but enough love of music to pass the vibes down. As a child I had keyboard and violin lessons but nothing stuck quite like guitar, bass, and drums.
The outdoors make me feel like a human; connected to everything. I personally think that, although technology and "civilization" is cool and all, if more people just went into a forest for a couple of hours a week or day, it would drastically improve their mood, outlook, and ability to live sustainably. Â
I have been touring the world for about 5 years straight. Personal connections is the only way to keep me sane and comfortable on those endeavors. I've been blessed to be able to have a homely experience just about anywhere in the world and that familiarity, love, warmth, and refuge makes up for the unfamiliarity and lack of equilibrium that comes with being in a different time zone every day.
Inner and outer peace are inextricable in my humble opinion." - Cinque Kemp
