After months of preparation and weeks of living on the flanks of Denali, in early June Ethan Berman and Antony Wood made a 3-day bid on the classic Cassin Ridge. Join them as they talk through their first expedition to the Alaska Range and share stories from their successful climb. They will provide insights into the preparation and execution of big climbing and skiing trips to Alaska and the greater ranges, including the value of base camp DJs and knowing how to properly apply sunscreen.
Most importantly they hope to get you psyched on planning your own adventure to the big hills of Alaska!
Ethan is a climber and environmental researcher based somewhere between the coast mountains and the Rockies. With climbing roots sewn between craggy outcrops in Thailand, granite monoliths in Yosemite, and arduous winter attempts in BC, he is most drawn to the open expanses of the high alpine. In recent years he has put together expeditions to Bolivia and Alaska, both of which resulted in successful ascents of long mixed routes. Ethan also connects to the landscapes that inspire him through researching changes to snow and vegetation dynamics from satellite imagery. He maintains a blog of writing and photos from his favorite adventures at www.ethanclimbs.com.
Antony is a passionate outdoorsman and all-around climber based out of Squamish, BC. He enjoys searching the globe for his next mission, is a passionate tree lover, and works full-time as a climbing arborist. Antony has climbed some of the tallest trees around the world and is most comfortable up high enjoying the views this world has to offer. His main passions in life are rock climbing and winter climbing, and he is an avid fly fisherman. His background is in Scottish mixed climbing -- this is something his heart truly follows. In the future Antony hopes to explore the greater ranges of the world for first ascents and unclimbed peaks in remote areas.
