Cassie Ayoungman is a proud Siksika’ki (Blackfoot woman) raised in Siksika Nation, Alberta. Basketball was a big part of her upbringing and remains close to her heart. She later took part in the Indigenous military bold eagle program. In her mid-twenties, Cassie discovered mountain sports and quickly noticed the lack of diversity in outdoor spaces. This inspired her to found Soul of Miistaki, a not-for-profit that brings people together through movement and connection to the land. Through hiking, climbing, biking, and skiing, the organization also incorporates Indigenous cultural practices and teachings. Climbing has been both a teacher and a healer for Cassie, offering valuable lessons in resilience and personal growth. She takes pride in giving back to her Nation through her paramedic work and passions.
