Ephemere is a deeply personal and poetic journey about grieving, thriving, and finding one's way. From the melting snow beneath your skis to the brief life of the waves, it is an ode to each honey-soaked, stung, and swollen moment before us.
It is a reflection of a shy child who had a special relationship with nature, of a teenager who miraculously survived an avalanche but lost his best friend to it, and of a young adult who navigates a society that struggles to understand—all told through downhill dance with gravity of skier Edgar Cheylus.
Skier Joi Hoffman hasn’t owned a car for about five years, leaning on public transit to commute in his hometown of Innsbruck, Austria. But after a sun-soaked family trip to Greece, he began to wonder—what distant mountains can we reach using only public transit?
Teaming up with Silvia Moser, Loic Isliker, and Max Kroneck, the four skiers try to answer that question. Follow along as they experience diverse cultures and journey through mountain ranges all fueled by public buses, trains, and their own two feet.
An intricate balance between technical precision and free-flowing caution-to-the-wind, Craig Murray’s skiing is at its core an ode to his early life experiences with a family that supported and pushed each other constantly. Gifted the nickname "Weazy" when he was young, he's still notoriously tricky to pin down. Nowadays, you are more likely to find him quietly moving through the mountains with a mindset shaped by the natural world, and informed by a deep desire to understand and steadily evolve one's own physical and mental limits.
Prepare to let go and feel your way through these mountain moments as we journey through, over, and between with Elena Hight, Severin van der Meer, and Jared Elston. Taking us on a guided tour that examines the similarities between snowboarding, craft, and art, Every Island Has a Name is an invitation to let your imagination soar.
