Through community engagement and a wide range of outdoor activities, Brown Girl Outdoor World (BGOW) is committed to changing the narratives assigned to the Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPoC) community and our place in outdoor adventure and recreation. As an organization, we are laser focused on moving the conversation away from what we do not do but work instead to provide tangible solutions to diversifying outdoor recreation. We are putting ourselves in position to create a new narrative that would bridge the engagement gap by calling to action community organizations, business corporations and government agencies, to begin the business of reminding BIPoC communities that they too belong in the great outdoors.

Prepare to let go and feel your way through these mountain moments as we journey through, over, and between with Elena Hight, Severin van der Meer, and Jared Elston. Taking us on a guided tour that examines the similarities between snowboarding, craft, and art, Every Island Has a Name is an invitation to let your imagination soar.
In 2011, Steve Matthews had a bright idea—with his kids completely hooked on snowboarding, he rallied a few friends and set out to build Yellowknife’s first and only rope tow. Without city permission or permits, the team went to work on the abandoned gravel mine on the outskirts of town, creating the Bristol Pit ski and snowboard park—and inadvertently creating the epicenter of community and snow-sliding in the Northwest Territories. Welcome to the Pit.
Skier Joi Hoffman hasn’t owned a car for about five years, leaning on public transit to commute in his hometown of Innsbruck, Austria. But after a sun-soaked family trip to Greece, he began to wonder—what distant mountains can we reach using only public transit?
Teaming up with Silvia Moser, Loic Isliker, and Max Kroneck, the four skiers try to answer that question. Follow along as they experience diverse cultures and journey through mountain ranges all fueled by public buses, trains, and their own two feet.
Tim Sackbauer is a skier hailing from Vail, Colorado who was also born with Down syndrome. Introduced to the mountains by his family, a tight-knit bunch with skiing in their DNA, he learns to carve his own path and rise above expectations. Taking to the slopes, he finds a refuge for expression, solace, and a way to navigate the complicated world around him.
Rogers Pass represents one of the most complicated avalanche control programs in the world. Ski touring through its storied terrain is only possible thanks to the visionary mountain guide who architected the ski system years ago, and the woman she mentored who’s now at the helm of that avalanche program. The stakes are higher than most skiers could ever imagine.
Ephemere is a deeply personal and poetic journey about grieving, thriving, and finding one's way. From the melting snow beneath your skis to the brief life of the waves, it is an ode to each honey-soaked, stung, and swollen moment before us.
It is a reflection of a shy child who had a special relationship with nature, of a teenager who miraculously survived an avalanche but lost his best friend to it, and of a young adult who navigates a society that struggles to understand—all told through downhill dance with gravity of skier Edgar Cheylus.

Max can’t remember which came first, the skis or the camera; it’s inconsequential since he never has one without the other. Born with a vivid imagination and a talent for adapting, Max is a creative traveler who never leaves home without his headlamp. He is known for his 'shortcuts' which often end up taking more time, but are always more scenic for Max who is a sucker for good a view, especially at dusk. Max loves documenting his adventures with friends whether playing in the mountains or at sea. His aptitude for capturing souls and creating art is a savant skill that can not be taught. Likewise, his fondness for icy, cruddy, crusty snow might be a mania that can not be cured. When he isn’t chasing obscure lines, he is blissfully riding the waves of life around the globe with his young family.
***Please note that Max will only be in attendance on Friday, November 8th.
