Haley Daniels is a trailblazing Olympian, advocate, and passionate outdoor enthusiast. At Tokyo 2020, she made history in canoe slalom and championed gender equality. Now, retired, she advocates for representation and the environment, spearheading initiatives like Canmore Women's Enduro and working with climate advocacy initiatives through Protect Our Winters (POW). Haley's commitment extends to ambassador roles for Protect our Winters and KidSport Calgary, showcasing her dedication to community engagement and positive change. Collaborating with the IOC at the Paris 2024 Olympics this summer in the broadcasting team, she continues her extraordinary journey, leaving an indelible mark on the landscapes she loves.
Haley's childhood was a symphony of mountain play, shaped by parents who were avid outdoor enthusiasts. Ski trips, canoe adventures, and family outings under the open sky were the norm, fostering in her a profound love for paddling and the great outdoors. With her father at the helm of the Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association (CARDA), the family's golden retrievers became skilled companions, and the mountains became Haley's playground.
Â
Fast forward to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where Haley etched her name in history as a trailblazing athlete in canoe slalom. The global pandemic didn't just showcase her prowess; it ignited her mission for gender equality in her sport. For 12 years, she championed the cause of advocating for women's canoeing to be added to the Olympic program, and finally, at Tokyo, women's canoeing made its debut, a historic moment Haley had tirelessly worked towards. Her family's Olympic legacy shines brightly, with her father, Kimberly Daniels, serving as the first openly transgender judge at the Olympics.
Â
This commitment to inclusivity and the environment is evident in Haley's roles as an ambassador for Protect Our Winters (POW) and the visionary founder of the Canmore Women's Enduro which will debut this summer. Aligned with her core values of play, creativity, curiosity, and advocacy, she passionately supports POW's vision for resilient communities and a sustainable future.
Â
Retired from professional canoe slalom, Haley's multifaceted life includes being a speaker and ambassador for KidSport Calgary, Special Olympics, WaterAid Canada, Protect Our Winters, and Arc'teryx. Her involvement in various boards, such as Canoe Kayak Canada High-Performance Committee, and Calgary Booster Club reflects her dedication to community engagement. Living in Canmore, surrounded by the mountains of her youth, she authentically connects with and elevates her community.
Â
As she collaborates with the International Olympic Committee at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games this summer, Haley continues to weave her extraordinary journey. Pushing limits in the outdoors, and planning expeditions that intertwine her passion for kayaking, biking, climbing, ice climbing, and ski touring, Haley Daniels is not just a trailblazer on and off the water—she is a catalyst for positive change and inclusivity, leaving an indelible mark on the landscapes she loves.

Haley is wearing the women's Sentinel Jacket in Liberate! (photos below by Pete Hoang & Anna Szczur).
"The best addition to my winter wardrobe has been the Sentinel Jacket where style and utility unite. The helmet-friendly hood and vibrant zipper accents make a bold statement, turning every slope into your personal runway... on POW days the powder skirt keeps the snow out while you get face shots. The color blocking is my favorite tone of purple is what sold me and I can't wait for more epic days in the mountains in it! I have been rocking it in the back country and the resort and been warm in both settings."
