We will meet at basecamp and from there will take the Pacific NW trail towards Sharpe Cove and then on to Rosario Beach. Some of the views will place us above the water or along the water. We will explore a variety of landscape techniques to capture the beauty of this place.
Â
During the outing, Kate will share tips on landscape photography.
In Backpacking 101 we will cover the basics of planning your first backpacking trip: route selection, permits, how to choose a trip, what gear to pack, clothing systems, backcountry food and food storage, hygiene and water treatment.
At the end of the course you will have the basic knowledge to confidently select and plan an overnight backpacking trip. An emphasis is placed on leave no trace principles and making safe, conservative decisions while exploring our wild spaces.
Join Claire Giordano, a local environmental artist and writer, for an outdoor workshop and learn how to paint a beautiful Northwest landscape! During this three hour workshop Claire will teach us how to use watercolor to translate what we see and experience into paint, as well as share her go-to techniques for painting the forest, water, and mountains around us at Deception Pass. She will also demo a scene from our location and each student will have time to paint and explore our location through art.Â
This workshop is for all levels.

Learn to paint with me! The Adventure Art Academy is a series of virtual watercolor lessons filmed outside where every painting is an adventure. I love to paint outside, and for the first time I am teaching all the techniques I use to create a landscape from start to finish.
In each lesson, you learn as if you are sitting beside me on the shore of an alpine lake or perched on a rocky promontory above a glacier in an accessible and fun step-by-step process.
